Using CouchKarma as a guest
Your ratings, imported titles, subscriptions, and previously seen picks are stored in this browser. Clearing site data removes this local information. It does not remove taste previously saved to an account.
Accounts and saved taste
Supabase handles sign-in and stores your account identity. Your browser keeps a session so you can stay signed in. CouchKarma stores saved taste and group records in Cloudflare’s database. When you are signed in, ratings, imported taste, and preference changes save to your account automatically. Guest taste from this browser is carried into your account when you sign in.
Google sign-in requests your basic profile and email, not access to Gmail or Drive. Group members can see their group’s name, size, and how many members have added taste for that format, not other members’ individual ratings.
AI recommendations
When you request an AI pick, your mood, preferences, and taste examples are sent to OpenAI. Group picks use examples from members’ saved tastes. Your mood is not added to your saved taste profile. OpenAI processes requests under its own data policies; this page does not promise that third-party services retain no data.
Podcast searches
Podcast searches are sent to Apple’s public directory. Loading episodes sends the selected show’s directory ID. AI podcast picks may send a short topic query derived from your mood and the IDs of selected favorite shows to the directory. Your saved podcast favorites include the show name, directory ID, host, artwork link, and optional favorite episode. Artwork loads from its source provider.
Imports and other services
Public-profile imports request ratings from Letterboxd or Goodreads. We retain title, year, format, and rating, up to 500 titles. Imports are one-time reads, not an ongoing account connection. Optional CSV files are read in your browser.
Cloudflare hosts the app. Daily recommendation limits use a hashed identifier derived from your account ID or IP address and the date. Hosting and authentication providers may process operational information to run their services. External cover images and links connect to their respective providers.
Feedback and picks for later
“Not tonight” skips a recommendation for the current search. “Not my taste” excludes it from future picks and, for movies, series, books, and starter podcast episodes, records a disliked rating. Rejecting a directory podcast episode does not dislike the whole show. This feedback follows the same guest storage and account-saving rules as other taste changes.
“Save this pick for later” keeps up to 20 titles and source links on this device only. This list does not sync across devices and is cleared when you sign out.
Understanding what works
We count picker starts, recommendation requests, results, no matches, failures, feedback choices, saves, content-link clicks, and voluntary “I started” confirmations. These are daily totals grouped by format, solo or group use, and broad response-time ranges. We do not store moods, titles, ratings, names, account IDs, or session IDs in these measurement totals. Counts are retained for about 30 days and older counts are removed when new measurements arrive.
To limit automated submissions, a separate daily hash derived from an IP address is used for measurement rate limits and expires with the same cleanup. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable product measurement. Operational hosting logs and recommendation abuse limits are separate.
Managing your information
You can change or clear individual taste ratings and clear imported ratings in your account controls. Changes save automatically while you are signed in. Signing out clears this app’s local taste and session; it does not delete your account or saved database records. Full account deletion is not currently available in the app. To request deletion, email hello@couchkarma.com from the address you use to sign in. We will verify the request before removing account data.
